Prof. Eugen Gomringer about Walter Giers
Walter Giers was born in 1937 in Mannweiler/Pfalz. He trained at the art college in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where he also, for
years already, lives and works and from where he enlivens the object design as well as, the animation of whole town images
with fantasy and art due to his inventions. Only to few other artists the term ‘invention’ fits as well as to Walter Giers.
He overcomes with consummate ease the border between design and art by ingenious inventions, which include the user,
"consumer", in the narrow and wider sense, into the concept; for inspiration as, also, often for excitement. His word:
"The recipient will be well-aimed influenced" hits the bull’s eye. Giers is the versatile creative spirit, which our
time needs, who also knows how to handle the means of our time as a technical artist.
