NEWPORT is a bouclé - a coarsely structured fabric made of different yarns with loops and knots. The cotton-viscose blend gives the fabric its extraordinarily soft feel and volume. The synthetic provides the durability. 
The term bouclé originates from French and means something like ring, loop or sling, which refers to the fluffy details which are characteristic for this fabric. It became foremost popular in association with the French fashion designer Coco Chanel, who first used the fabric for her costumes.
