Bali

The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.

Petrography

This quartzite appears very dark, which is rather atypical for rocks of this type. Thereason for this is a small proportion of the finest black to dark brown mica flakes (biotite) scattered throughout the colorless transparent quartz. This contrasts with white quartz layers, which visually emphasize the folding in the rock.

Petrogenesis

The origin here was clayey sand deposits on the sea floor. During subsequent transformation and mountain folding under high pressures and temperatures, the clay content was converted to biotite mica and the once porous structure was compacted.
