Petrography
This is almost pure quartz rock showing only little colouring from brown limonite, an iron oxide.
Petrogenesis
It often happens that enormous rock packets are broken by tectonic stresses, released in earth quakes. In the lower areas of the earth’s crust hot water containing dissolved minerals then flowed through the cracks generated. These minerals (mostly quartz and calcite) deposited over time at the walls of the clefts and lead to full healing of these clefts after they were filled completely. Only rarely these quartz gangs are that enormous and homogenous that they can be used as engineered stones.
